The event will take place at 15:00u.


The goal of the project called "The Times, they are a-changin' ", is to hear the future. 8 compositions of composers between age 12 and 20 will be played, and three of them are by my students!


So says a very proud teacher ...

It is conceptualised as a study project around the Harmony textbook by Vincent Persichetti "Twentieth Century Harmony - Creative Aspects and Practice" (Norton and Co. 1967).


I called this project "The Harmony Workbook", and besides expanding my knowledge of modern harmony concepts, I hope to compose a few nice compositions for the piano.

Dit was plichtwerk op de Dexia Classics wedstrijd en de 3 finalisten hebben er elk een geheel eigen interpretatie aan gegeven.


Het is leuk om te horen hoe een werk zijn eigen leven gaat leiden als je de controle erover loslaat.

Volgens alle online marketing handboeken is content alles, en moet er dus regelmatig nieuwe content te vinden zijn op je site. Daarom even een berichtje dat ik vandaag de eerste gedrukte exemplaren van twee van mijn werken, uitgegeven bij Metropolis, heb ontvangen. Toch wel speciaal, al was het niet de eerste keer. Eén van die werken is nieuw (amper anderhalve week oud en reeds in druk verkrijgbaar, dat moet een of ander record zijn!): het toekomstige plichtwerk voor harp van de Dexia Classics wedstrijd. De titel is "The Land of Maybe", en ik ben er erg tevreden over. Hopelijk zijn er nu veel kandidaten voor harp dit jaar, dan kan ik ook live ervan genieten!

De drie cursussen hiervoor heb ik gedurende 12 weken online gevolgd in de tweede helft van 2010. Of het nog praktisch nut voor mijn loopbaan als componist gaat hebben, is zeer de vraag, maar ik heb toch een heleboel zaken geleerd die nieuw waren voor mij.

Is it already back to school? http://dagmarfeyen.com/news.html#44 Two weeks ago, the teaching year has already started ... and it promises to be an exciting year, despite the heavy workload. Apart from my teaching at the Music Academy of Mol, there is the guest lectureship at KHLim which is more spread over the entire year. As a performer there are already some 30 concerts booked, mostly as a sideman with the project of Hubert Daemen, but there are some solo recitals planned. I have challenged myself to write a children's musical for the school that my son is attending, so that will be quite some work too. And last but not least, I'm attending an online course at http://www.berkleemusic.com for orchestrating an music production for film and game music. So, you can see: Lots to do and oh so little time ...

I am lazy! http://dagmarfeyen.com/news.html#43 Finally vacation! Maybe I can do some things now that got postponed while I was snowed under with work during the final term of the school year. But then again ... vacation is for ... doing what you like, is it not? So besides the children's musical that I have to write for the primary school where my son is going, doing some serious piano practising for an upcoming recital (I know, it is in December, so I have lots of time to delay that!), updating my administration, doing some work around the house (oh yes, I'm afraid that I have to do that also!), I don't think that I make any serious plans, because I will only get frustrated with not achieving my goals. The day after tomorrow we will go on a holiday to France for 9 days, and after that ... who knows? Happy summer holidays for everybody!!
